Holden Trent, of the Philadelphia Union, has died, the team announced

The Philadelphia Union announced the death of goalkeeper Holden Trent on Saturday at the age of 25.

In two brief announcements on their Facebook page, team officials said Trent had died and they were “devastated.”

According to his family, he was surrounded by family and friends.

The team called him a “great player and fierce competitor” and went on to acknowledge his deep bond with his family and fiancée, and, while grieving themselves, offered their condolences to his family.

He has made six appearances for Union 2 in MLS Next Pro since being called up in 2023.

No cause of death was mentioned in the announcements.

Trent’s family posted the following on his Instagram:

“We would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Details about the services and celebration of life will follow. Our family is deeply moved to see and experience the love you all have for Holden.”

Holden Trent turned 25 years old.
