Historic record broken by lucky PGA player

Joe Highsmith may not be the most famous player on the PGA Tour, but he made history by making his third hole-in-one of the season at the Wyndham Championship. No player in American Tour history had ever accomplished that feat.

Pga, record

Joe Highsmith’s feat may not be as statistically improbable as Frank Bensel Jr.’s two straight holes-in-one at the Senior U.S. Open last June. But it’s still incredible, and history-making. By making a hole-in-one on the 172-yard, par-3 No. 3, he’s the only one who’s ever made it.

12 during the second round of the Wyndham Championship, the 24-year-old rookie hit his third ace of the season. No PGA Tour player has hit so many holes-in-one in a single year since 1983 and the modernization of the American Tour’s stats.

Highsmith had previously scored holes-in-one at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (5th hole, 2nd round at Detroit Golf Club) and the American Express (13th hole, 2nd round at PGA West’s Stadium Course). “The Amex is still my favorite because my grandfather was there that day, he couldn’t walk the course and it was the only shot he saw me hit all day,” said a happy and accomplished Joe Highsmith.

Who has made just seven cuts in 21 tournaments this season, but who has his name permanently inscribed in the PGA Tour Hall of Fame for that. And who must hope to win this week to have a chance of playing in the FedExCup Playoffs.

The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf is played. They are written and administered jointly by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert committee, made up of members from the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The most recent revision went into effect on January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: changes that improve understanding of the Rules and changes that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published regularly and also contains rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R&A, checking that these rules are observed by clubs, associations and their members, and administering the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
