High School Bowling Teams Across Northwest Indiana Are On A Roll

Bowling in Northwest Indiana (NWI) is a sought-after product, especially in a high school setting. Schools such as Valparaiso High School, Michigan City High School, Munster High School, Lowell High School, Wheeler High School, La Porte High School and many more participate in the Lakeshore Indiana High School Bowling Conference (Lakeshore IHSB).

The season starts in mid-October, but most teams make their calls in August.

Furthermore, the schools have separate boys’ and girls’ teams or only boys’ and girls’ groups, depending on the size of the school and the number of registrations.

The schools compete at the local level against their peers mentioned above, but they also compete at the state level against other schools they do not see on a regular basis.

  • The home base of Michigan City High School’s bowling team is City Lanes, located in Michigan City, Indiana.
  • The home base of Chesterton High School’s bowling team is the Inmans Bowling and Recreation Center in Valparaiso.
  • The home base of Lake Central High Schools bowling team is Stardust Bowl in Dyer, Indiana.
  • The home base of La Porte High School’s bowling team is Caseys Lanes in La Porte, Indiana.
  • The home base of the Hobart High School Boys Bowling team is Hobart Lanes in Hobart, Indiana.

Each team has a set date for practices and call-ups, but the actual start date is in October, when all teams in the Indiana High School Bowling Conference Lakeshore (IHSB) compete until the first few weeks of February of the following year.

Below is a look at what happened last season when teams competed at certain teams’ home bases.

One particular team like the Wheeler Boys Bowling team won the sectionals on January 14th with an average of 220 over 12 games. Wheeler continued to win after that as they were the conference champions.

As for the girls bowling teams, the La Porte Girls Bowling team finished in first place in the regular season and became the conference champions. The Hobart Girls team finished in second place and the Valparaiso Girls team finished in third place.
