‘He couldn’t continue’ – Mikel Arteta gives Bukayo Saka update

Arsenal’s manager has provided an update on Bukayo Saka’s injury ahead of next weekend’s match against Manchester City.

Despite a long list of injuries, including players like Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard, Mikel Arteta managed to lead his team to victory in the North London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Jorginho and Thomas Partey formed the midfield pivot, while Leandro Trossard played behind Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli and Saka operated on the wings.

The system worked and, despite some setbacks, managed to suppress Spurs’ pressure in the second half, with Lilywhite’s defensive line making a bold move forward.

While fans will be overjoyed with the win, there is a dark cloud on the horizon as Saka is sent off just before the end of the match.

The England winger unexpectedly went to ground and hobbled off the pitch as his academy star Ethan Nwaneri took his place on the right.

With injuries piling up and the team due to play Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next week, a potential injury to Saka could be disastrous.

Arteta revealed the 23-year-old’s status after the match and indicated he would be unable to continue in the match.

“I don’t know,” the Spaniard said during his press conference, via Football.London.

“I made two substitutions with the front players and suddenly he is under it. I don’t know exactly what it is, but he couldn’t continue.”
