Harry Potter star Katie Leung joins Bridgerton season 4 as main rival

Bridgeton Season four will see Harry Potter alumna Katie Leung as one of the main rivals for new lead actress Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

Scottish actor Leung, 37, is best known for her role as the love interest of the title character, Ravenclaw witch Cho Chang in the hit film series. She will play the role of the “twice-married, twice-widowed” Lady Araminta Gun.

Lady Araminta is the mother of two daughters who “makes her debut on the marriage market this season and feels the pressure to marry off at least one,” according to an official character description.

“Araminta is fantastic, sharp and blunt. She doesn’t react well when something – or someone – threatens her position in society.”

Meanwhile, her eldest daughter Rosamund Li (Goosebumps‘Michelle Mao), described as “beautiful, vain and eager to please her mother,” has “set her sights on Benedict Bridgerton this season and is determined to get what she wants.”

The Crow‘s and 1899Isabella Wei plays the role of Rosamund’s friendlier and more talkative younger sister, Posy Li.

The upcoming season of Netflix’s Regency-era romance will be based on the third novel, An offer from a gentlemanin author Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series.

It will focus on the love life of the second eldest Bridgerton, Benedict, who has shown little interest in marriage in previous seasons. That is, until he meets Sophie, disguised in a silver dress, at Violet Bridgerton’s masked ball.

Victim of “tragic events”, Sophie is forced to spend much of her life working as a maid for the most demanding employer in town. However, her circumstances “change” dramatically after she attends the ball.

Sophie’s original name in the books was Sophie Beckett, but out of respect for Ha’s Korean culture, her last name has since been changed to Baek.

“A name is the first piece of identity you share with the world, and that’s why changing a name can be so powerful,” the Korean-Australian actor recently said Tudum. “To have Sophie’s name fit someone who looks like me is really empowering. All credit goes to Jess Brownell, our showrunner.”

Ha added: “It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is right for me, rather than having to fit into a certain mold. It’s amazing what it can do, just psychologically. So it means a lot that Jess has done that for me.”

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Bridgeton season four.
