Haivision rides the Olympic wave with France Télévisions’ 5G Paris 2024 surf coverage

Haivision’s private 5G video transmission ecosystem will cover the event from Tahiti

Haivision has announced a partnership with France Télévisions to cover surfing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

France Télévisions will provide live coverage of the event and pre- and post-competition activities from Tahiti, where the surfing takes place.

To capture and transmit live contribution streams, the broadcaster’s team in Teahupo’o will deploy ultra-low latency Haivision Pro460 mobile video transmitters. The feeds will be transmitted via Obvio’s private software-based 5G Dome network to Haivision StreamHub receivers at the post-production center on Teahupo’o Beach.

The produced content is then transported to France Télévisions’ production center in Paris for distribution across the company’s networks via Haivision StreamHub’s IP gateway, the company said.

Thierry Jacob, director of foreign resources and development at France Télévisions, said:
“By leveraging the latest technology, including a private 5G mobile network from Obvios and Haivision’s mobile contribution solutions, we are able to offer viewers unprecedented UHD coverage of the athletes before and after the surfing competition during the Olympic Games. The technology powering the work in Tahiti will revolutionize the way France Télévisions Overseas’ production teams work, bringing viewers closer to the competitions and the athletes than ever before.”

Coverage includes interviews from the Olympic Village and live footage from a camera on a boat.

“Haivision is extremely proud to partner with France Télévisions to cover the surfing event and athletes at the Paris 2024 Games,” said Jean-Marc Racine, Chief Product Officer at Haivision. “This partnership showcases innovation by combining the Haivision Pro and StreamHub receiver with the power of private 5G connectivity from Obvios. Together, we are setting a new standard for how large-scale events are covered and presented to the public.”

Surfing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place over four days in a ten-day period, from July 27 to August 5.
