Haason Reddick turned down a one-year offer from the Jets due to a postponement

The sides believed an amicable resolution would be reached to allow the pass rusher to play for the Jets, earn his money back and have a chance to cash in again this offseason with a big 2024 on a defense that coaches say is perfect for him. Still, Reddick refused to sign the deal.

At that point, the Jets had no choice but to move on and hope he would show up. Reddick simply wouldn’t get in, despite no clear win available.

Wanting a multi-year deal that would make him one of the highest-paid pass rushers in the NFL, Reddick resisted. It appears there is no market for such a deal at the moment.

Reddick was set to make $14.25 million this season, and when the Jets traded for him to the Eagles, he wanted a multi-year deal. New York had a one-year solution in mind, with Reddick playing it out and being a free agent in 2025.

Reddick is currently the only NFL player holding out and must report in Week 13 to receive an accrued season or his contract will take a toll and everyone will be in the same situation next year.

Reddick could also decide to leave the game and take an even more principled stand.

This week, during a press conference to discuss the firing of coach Robert Saleh, Jets owner Woody Johnson implored Reddick to appear.

“Haason, get in your car, drive down (I)-95 and come to the New York Jets, and we can meet you and give you an escort into the building and you’ll fit right in,” Johnson said. “You’re going to love it here, you’re going to feel welcome and you’re going to achieve great things with us.”

Asked to sum it up, Johnson said: “This is something I’ve never seen before, you know, and you even have more years than me. I don’t think any of us have seen anything like it. I think you have to be part psychologist and part something else to try to figure out what’s really going on.”

He said Reddick would be welcomed with open arms if and when he shows up.
