Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is excited to have his new teammate in the fold.

The Grizzlies selected Zach Edey, a 7-foot-10 center from Purdue University, with the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, prompting the two-time NBA All-Star to reference a highly popular action movie.

Morant posted to his Instagram Story a hilarious clip from the 2007 film “Rush Hour 3,” in which Detective James Carter, played by Chris Tucker, reacts with surprise to the enormous height of a child in a karate class.

Edey is registered as a Canadian player and represents the country’s national team, but he was born in Toronto to Chinese immigrant parents.

Grizzlies shooting guard Desmond Bane was also excited about the team’s selection of Edey.

“LETS GOOOOO,” the 26-year-old posted on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The 22-year-old center is coming off his senior season, in which he led Purdue to the national championship game against UConn, which he ultimately lost 75-60.

Despite not making the finals, Edey capped his sensational college career by winning the National College Player of the Year, the Pete Newell Big Man Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award for the second year in a row.

The Toronto native averaged 25.2 points, 12.2 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in the 2023-24 NCAA season.
