Grenade attack by terrorists at Srinagar market leaves 12 injured; CM Omar and LG Sinha condemned the incident

JK Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha directed the Union Territory’s top police officer and other security officials to give a strong response to the terrorists.

“The LG spoke to DGP Nalin Prabhat and senior security officials about the grenade attack in Srinagar. He directed security officials to launch an effective and strong response to punish the terrorists and their associates,” an official spokesperson said.

The LG claimed that the terrorists who attack civilians will have to pay a very heavy price. “You have complete freedom to crush terrorist groups and leave no stone unturned to complete this mission,” he said.

Similarly, Congress’s Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the grenade attack.

“It is very disturbing to hear about the unfortunate and gruesome incident of a grenade attack on shopkeepers,” Karra said.

“Jammu and Kashmir Police must take effective measures to curb such brutal and inhuman attacks so that the public can move freely and without any fear,” he added.

On Saturday, security forces eliminated a top LeT commander and two other terrorists in separate encounters in Srinagar and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The LeT commander, identified as Usman, was active in the Valley for years and was also involved in the killing of Inspector Masroor Wani, a senior police officer said.

Wani was shot dead at close range while playing cricket at the Eidgah ground in October last year.

Usman was active in the valley for a very long time and was involved in several attacks, the officer said, adding that his killing was a “major blow” to the LeT in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Usman was the top Pakistani LeT commander here,” he said.

Four security force personnel were also injured during the encounter in Srinagar.

This was the first meeting in Srinagar in more than two years.

In another anti-terror operation, two ultras were gunned down by the security forces in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The encounter broke out near Halkan Gali in the Shangus-Larnoo area.

Commander of the Army’s 2 Sector RR, Brigadier Anirudh Chauhan, at a press conference after the operation, said the slain terrorists belonged to the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) – an offshoot of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

“We received inputs about the movements of PAFF group in Anantnag. This group killed Territorial Army gunman Hilal (Ahmad Bhat) on October 8. We received inputs about their presence in Larnoo area and an operation was launched,” he said. Chauhan. said.

Bhat was one of the two soldiers allegedly abducted by terrorists during search operations in Anantnag forest area. While a jawan escaped, Bhat’s body was found in Kazwan forest area in Kokernag.

“Two terrorists were killed. A huge cache of weapons and ammunition, including M4 and AK rifles, grenades and three IEDs (improvised explosive devices), were seized. Both were dreaded terrorists and were involved in several attacks, including on non-locals,” the army officer said.
