Graham Ashcraft Injury Update Reds Moved to MLB Injured List

After the Cincinnati Reds sent starting pitcher Graham Ashcraft to Triple-A on Monday, he went to a doctor to have the stiffness in his elbow evaluated. Ashcraft discovered that he had a sprained elbow.

On Wednesday, the Reds canceled Ashcraft’s option and placed him on the Major League Injured List.

“He’s been having some stiffness,” said Nick Krall, the Reds’ president of baseball operations. “He hasn’t really complained about it too much, but it’s seemed to come on over the last week or so.”

Because of the trade, Ashcraft was never sent to Triple-A and has been on the injured list since July 8.

Krall said Ashcraft will receive a PRP injection and will not pitch for the next two weeks. There is no timeline yet for Ashcraft’s return.

Before going on the injured list, Ashcraft had been beaten out by Carson Spiers for the No. 5 starter spot. The Reds currently have Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Andrew Abbott, Frankie Montas and Spiers in the rotation.

Ashcraft’s injury is another blow to their starting pitching depth. Starter Brandon Williamson (shoulder) is out until at least September and prospect Connor Phillips had terrible results in Triple-A before being moved to rookie ball as a chance to reset.
