In a tragic incident, at least three people were killed after their speeding car fell into the Ramganga river from an under-construction bridge in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. According to information released, the incident took place around 10 am today (November 24) while the car, with three passengers on board, was heading towards Dataganj in Badaun district from Bareilly. However, while following the GPS navigation, the car fell off a bridge under construction. The road navigation platform failed to inform passengers that the front part of the bridge had previously collapsed into the river during flooding in the region.

Police said, “The deceased navigated to Dataganj using GPS. They might have been supposed to take the route over the bridge. But they were not aware that earlier this year floods had collapsed the front part of the bridge. However, this change was not in the GPS. This misled the driver into not realizing that the bridge was unsafe.”

“Moreover, the absence of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge increased the danger, leading to the fatal accident,” police added.

Significantly, while police said they have recovered the vehicle and bodies from the river, the identities of the deceased are yet to be established. Moreover, they reported that as soon as they became aware of the incident, police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly and Badaun police stations in Dataganj rushed to the spot to help the victims.

Area Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam stated that all three bodies of the deceased have been sent for a post-mortem. Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
