Good Morning America features a volunteer team that searched for a kayaker who faked his death

NEW YORK (WBAY) – The story of a missing kayaker in Green Lake County that took an unexpected turn is gaining national attention.

On Tuesday, Good Morning America reported on the disappearance of 45-year-old Ryan Borgwardt.

Officials believe he faked his August drowning to convince his wife and children that he died so he could start a new life in Europe.

Volunteer organization Bruce’s Legacy was called in to help with the search, and its founder tells Good Morning America that he used a lot of resources for nothing.

“You know, he wasted a lot of my time and it cost me a lot of money. During this search we discovered some things on the lake due to the location of the lake. It is very shallow in some areas and in most of the lake we searched it is over 200 feet deep,” said Keith Cormican.

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office will also talk about what investigators found on Borgwardt’s laptop that changed everything.

Good Morning America airs at 7 a.m. on WBAY-TV 2
