Golden Knights’ Robin Lehner issues statement after missing medical exam

Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner spoke with Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and released a statement about why he missed his mandatory pre-season medical.

Lehner last played an NHL game on April 20, 2022, undergoing hip surgery that summer. He was not expected to return for the 2024-25 season. He is entering the final season of a five-year, $25 million contract, with an actual salary of $4.4 million in 2024-25.

According to Friedman’s article, “All players on the long-term injured reserve list must undergo a medical examination prior to camp to determine that they are still unable to play. Failure to do so could theoretically result in termination of their contracts. According to multiple sources, everyone involved knew Lehner would not be there. Those same sources indicate that the NHL, NHLPA and Vegas are working on a solution.”

Lehner gave a brief statement explaining why he was not present.

“All I can say at this point is that everyone knows why I couldn’t be there. I’m just waiting patiently for everything to be resolved.”

It is a unique situation that will hopefully be resolved quickly.
