George Burley: Ipswich legend and former Scotland manager undergoes cancer treatment

Former Ipswich Town player and manager George Burley is undergoing treatment for cancer, the Premier League club have announced.

The former Scotland international, who also coached the national team from January 2008 to November 2009, was diagnosed after feeling unwell earlier this year.

Burley, 68, played for Ipswich from 1973 to 1985, making 500 appearances for the club. He was manager of Ipswich from 1994 to 2002.

“It was a tough time but I feel much happier now,” Burley said. “I can even go to games at Portman Road now and I’m enjoying seeing the team back in the Premier League.”
