Gary Neville has denied being an ‘inside man’ at Old Trafford after attending a meeting to discuss the stadium’s regeneration.

Former United defender Neville was asked by ex-Arsenal striker Ian Wright on the Stick To Football podcast for his thoughts on United’s ongoing struggles.

United have made their worst start to a Premier League season since 1989-90 after winning two of their first seven games to move them to 14th in the table.

Former United players Roy Keane and Wayne Rooney were also joined by ex-England midfielder Jill Scott to discuss the problems at United, and Wright asked for Neville’s thoughts as ‘an inside man’.

Speaking on Stick to Football, brought to you by Sky Bet, Neville said: “I’m not on the inside, no, I’m not.

‘On Monday I went to talk to them about the regeneration side.’

When asked if football matters were discussed, Marcel added: “Not at all.”

United boss Erik ten Hag has again come under immense pressure following United’s poor performances and Keane said on the podcast that he has not considered the possibility of replacing the Dutchman as he has not been asked.

When TV pundit Wright asked Keane if he would consider joining Old Trafford, Keane said: ‘Who, me? They’re not going to ask me. They just wouldn’t do that. It won’t happen.

“The only time you can answer a question, would you walk in there? Would you walk into Celtic? Would you walk into another company? It is when you are asked.”

They agreed that one of the biggest factors was the players’ collective lack of desire.

Wright added, “Yes, but where are they going to get it, Roy?

“Who’s going to change things if it’s not someone like you?

“All those things that need to be taught need to be taught by people who were there.

‘Are we supposed to think that United will bring in a new manager and everything will suddenly fall into place?’

Rooney lamented United’s performance in the recent 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham.

He said: ‘Something has to change and I’m not saying it’s purely down to the manager, but the performances and the lack of desire when you look at the players, it’s insane.

‘I was there for the Tottenham game and that was as bad as I’ve seen at Old Trafford in a long time.’

Keane said United’s performance levels reached a new low after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Twente in a home Europa League match

“The players came out after the game and said, ‘I think they wanted it more than us.’ I kind of gave up at that stage.

‘If that’s the sound coming from the dressing room, it’s no wonder the manager is in trouble.’
