gamescom 2024: the biggest announcements so far

gamescom 2024 is in full swing, with some of the biggest video game announcements of the year already making their way out. The show kicked off yesterday with Opening Night Live, and we’ve already gotten a ton of exciting news and game reveals from the show. Now, to follow up the opening act, Xbox is having daily livestreams to talk more in-depth about their upcoming releases.

To help you navigate the biggest reveals from the event, we’ve put together a list of some of the most exciting announcements, trailers, and news from the show so far. Borderlands 4 confirmed

Hot on the heels of the Borderlands film, it was revealed that Borderlands 4 was indeed happening and would be released sometime in 2025. The game was announced with a teaser trailer that apparently contains several secrets that fans may not discover upon first viewing.

Although the game’s title is Borderlands 4, it is actually the eighth game in the Borderlands series.

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 release date announced

Fans of the Civilization games will be happy to hear that not only did we get our first look at gameplay for the upcoming game, but we actually have a confirmed release date. Civilzation 7 launches on February 11, 2025 on Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The deluxe edition will be available to play 5 days early,

Trailer for Amazon’s Secret Level Series

One of the most popular reveals from Opening Night Live was an upcoming Amazon series called Secret Level. It’s an animated anthology series from the creators of Love, Death, and Robots that focuses on a series of new short stories from some of the most popular video games.

Secret Level will feature 15 episodes in total, featuring stories from games like God of War, Warhammer 40K, and more. We have a breakdown of every video game we saw in the trailer above, if you’re curious to see which games are featured.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Release Date Announced

We got another update on the highly anticipated Indianna Jones game during ONL. The game is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9. It was also announced that a PS5 version is currently in development, but that it won’t be released until spring 2025. Xbox boss Phil Spencer also went into some more detail about the decision to also release the game on PS5.

All-Digital Xbox Series X Release Date

All the power of an Xbox Series X, but without the disc drive.

Although it wasn’t necessarily announced bee gamescom, Xbox today revealed two new Xbox Series X consoles and one new Xbox Series S console. The new consoles were outlined on Xbox Wire, along with release dates for the All-digital consoles in Robot White. These new editions to the Xbox lineup will arrive on October 15, 2024.

All three consoles are available for pre-order now and will cost less than the versions with built-in disc drives.

Genshin Impact is coming to Xbox

Genshin Impact has been a very popular game for a while now and it is finally coming to the Xbox platform. Previously, Genshin Impact was only available on PC, PlayStation, and mobile devices, so the news that it is coming to Xbox is quite significant for anyone looking to play on their Microsoft console. The game is expected to release on Xbox Series consoles on November 20, 2024.

The next Dying Light game has been announced

A third installment in the Dying Light series has been officially announced. Dying Light: The Beast currently has no release date, but we did learn that original protagonist Kyle Crane will be returning as a playable character in the new game.

Goat Simulator: Remastered Announced

It was announced during ONL that the original Goat Simulator game will be getting an official remaster, simply titled: Goat Simulator: Remastered. There are a surprising number of Goat Simulator games available already, but the remaster of the popular 2014 game will be more than just improved graphics. All DLC released for the game will also be available as part of the new version, including one DLC that was previously only available on the mobile version.

New Mario Kart LEGO sets announced

The LEGO Group announced today that Mario Kart will be getting six official LEGO sets. The new sets will be released on January 1st and feature iconic characters from the franchise. While there have been quite a few Mario LEGO collaborations as part of the LEGO Nintendo lineup, this will be the first time that the Mario Kart franchise will be represented.

These new sets are currently on display on the show floor at gamescom 2024.

New Fallout Merchandise Available

The success of the Fallout TV series on Amazon has led to a slew of popular merchandise for fans to purchase and pre-order, which was announced alongside gamescom. You can now pre-order a set of new Fallout Pins, the official Fallout Vault 76 Hoodie, and a Sole Survivor action figure.

All of these items are currently available for pre-order on the IGN Store, along with a bunch of other cool Fallout merchandise.
