Gable Steveson Cut from Buffalo Bills Roster

Gable Steveson, a 2020 Olympic gold medalist and former WWE prospect, will soon be cut from the Buffalo Bills roster after attempting to make a career change to play in the NFL.

NFL Network first reported the news as teams prepare to cut their 53-man rosters by the required 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

With no football experience until 2024, Steveson decided to try his luck in football, following in the footsteps of fellow University of Minnesota wrestler Brock Lesnar, who made a similar move during his career. Lesnar left WWE and trained with the Minnesota Vikings during the pre-season, but would eventually suffer the same fate when he was fired, before eventually becoming one of the biggest stars in the UFC.

It was unlikely that Steveson would make the final roster anyway, given his lack of experience. But as a talented player, there is a chance he could still be signed to another roster or practice squad, with the NFL season starting in less than two weeks.

Before playing professional football, Steveson was widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the world, thanks to his stunning performance in winning a last-minute gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

After that victory, Steveson returned to college, where he crushed his opponents and went on to win his second NCAA championship.

Even before his Olympic run, Steveson had expressed interest in possibly pursuing fighting or professional wrestling, but he ultimately decided to sign with WWE after winning his gold medal. Unfortunately, Steveson never quite developed as WWE had hoped and was cut from the roster in May.

That led to Steveson’s decision to transition to professional football, where he played defensive tackle for the Buffalo Bills, making three tackles during his limited time on the field during pre-season training.

Now Steveson, who is only 24 years old, has been cut from the Bills’ roster and it remains to be seen what he will do next in his career.
