Fulham 2 – 1 Leicester

Emile Smith Rowe, on his debut for Craven Cottage, and Alex Iwobi both scored as Fulham beat Leicester City 2-1 to win their first home game of the new season.

The home side dominated a tense match in the rainy west London conditions and deservedly opened the scoring on 18 minutes after a fine move from Adama Traore. His swift run through midfield caused panic in the Leicester defence before the forward set up Smith Rowe with a clever pass straight through the net.

Team News:

Both teams were unchanged from their opening day clash. However, new Leicester midfielder Oliver Skipp took his place on the visitors’ bench, alongside latest signing Jordan Ayewm, while Ryan Sessegnon was also on the hosts’ bench following his return to the club.

Arsenal’s summer signing kept his composure and found the far corner, but the visitors were already dangerous on the counter and levelled seven minutes before half-time through a header from Wout Faes.

Facundo Buonanotte gave a corner at the far post, which the Belgian central defender headed past Bernd Leno. However, the referee’s assistant immediately raised his flag for offside against Jamie Vardy, who was standing around Fulham’s number 1.

However, video referee Jarred Gillet asked the referee to go to the pitchside monitor and he quickly saw that the experienced Foxes striker was not obstructing Leno’s view, bringing the visitors level at the break.

That goal seemed to give Fulham the impetus to win the match against Leicester in the second half. Although the Foxes largely frustrated their opponents, they kept knocking on the door and took back the lead with 20 minutes to go.

A long ball from Antonee Robinson found Iwobi with space on the left side of the pitch. The winger then pushed through into the box before slotting the ball past the advancing Mads Hermansen to give Fulham the three points, as the visitors continue to search for their first win of the new season.
