Former Sooners ‘honored’ to represent Team USA this summer

With the weekend series against Oklahoma City Spark complete, Team USA softball turns its attention to the WBSC World Cup in Italy.

Former Sooners Jayda Coleman and Tiare Jennings will be making the trip and are honored to represent America abroad.

Coleman says, “There are a lot of emotions that come over me when I put on the Team USA jersey. My uncle, Mike, served in the Navy, so it’s an honor and a blessing to be able to represent the U.S.A.”

“It’s a dream come true. I always wanted to play for Team USA when I was younger. It’s still incredible to be here. I’m so happy and so grateful,” Jennings said.

The girls will leave for Italy on July 9, with their first match scheduled for July 15. The Goal, taking home the gold. That said, the ladies have other plans while in Italy.

Jennings says, “I’m excited to have some pasta. Italian food is my absolute favorite, so I’m really excited to get out and have some good food and go shopping.”

“I heard the pasta and bread are ridiculous, so I’m going to try to eat as much of it as I can while I’m there. Without gaining too much weight!” adds Coleman.

Former OU stars Jocelyn Alo and Kinzie Hansen will also represent America this summer as part of the Team USA Elite squad that will compete in Japan. That competition begins on July 4.
