Former Italian Lower House Speaker Irene Pivetti has been sentenced to four years in prison for tax evasion and money laundering. The verdict was handed down by the fourth criminal section of the Milan Court in a trial involving three other defendants, linked to a series of commercial transactions in 2016 totaling around 10 million euros. These transactions included the sale of three Ferrari Granturismos, which, according to the prosecution, were used to launder proceeds from tax evasion.

The Milan court also ordered the confiscation of over 3.4 million euros from Pivetti, a sum that had already been seized during the investigation. However, this confiscation order will need to be finalized, and Pivetti is expected to file an appeal.

Additionally, the former Northern League member was fined 6,000 euros and faces several ancillary penalties, including a five-year ban from holding public office and a one-year ban on conducting business.
