Chilean football star Arturo Vidal and players from his first division Colo Colo team are being investigated for sexual assault, the public prosecutor’s office in Santiago said on Monday.

The investigation was launched after a complaint was filed against the players, but no one has been arrested so far, the agency said.

It did not say which of Vidal’s teammates were also targeted in the investigation.

Chilean media said the alleged attack took place in the early hours of Monday at a nightclub in Santiago, where a group of Colo Colo players were celebrating a birthday.

Police chief Gerardo Aravena said the 37-year-old former Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan midfielder Vidal was taken to a police station for an identity check.

Vidal scored 34 goals in 142 games for the Chilean national team.

The investigation comes days after former Chile international Jorge Valdivia, 41, was placed in preventive detention after being accused of rape.

Valdivia denied the allegations, saying he was “in a consensual relationship with an adult woman.”

He was part of the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ that led Chile to victory in the 2015 Copa America. He also played for the national team at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
