Forget Jota: Carragher says Liverpool’s second goal ‘is all about’ 23-year-old’s ‘wow’ moment; team-mates love it

Diogo Jota doubled his goal to put Liverpool 2-1 ahead against West Ham United on Wednesday night, but credit must be given to one of his team-mates for his role in the goal.

On his first start of the season it was Curtis Jones who picked up the ball in the half-space and caught the attention of four West Ham players before they gave Jota a perfect through ball.

It was a moment to remind everyone how effective Jones can be on a good day, and former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher wanted to make sure he got the recognition he deserved.

“This goal is all about Jones,” Carragher said in commentary for Sky Sports. “That’s why he gets all the praise from his team-mates.

“He almost loses the ball and there is some groaning, but he accelerates the game and attacks West Ham.”
