Flavor Flav Unveils the Custom Bronze Watch He Had Made for Olympic Gymnast Jordan Chiles

Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav unveiled the bronze bell he had custom-made for Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles this week (August 12).

The gymnast was ordered by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to return a bronze medal she won at the Paris Olympics. Chiles competed in the individual floor exercise at the Olympics and was awarded a bronze medal after an initial appeal from her coach changed her score.

However, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation itself appealed and reversed the decision, ruling that Chiles’ coach had filed her appeal just four seconds too late.

The IOC subsequently announced on August 11 that the bronze medal had been awarded to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu. The U.S. gymnastics team has since contested the ruling with video evidence of Chiles’ coach timely appealing the decision and has said it intends to pursue “every possible avenue and appeal procedure, including the Swiss Federal Tribunal” (according to Consequence).

When news of this broke, Flav promised to make a custom bronze bell necklace for Chiles after the decision.

Now, Flav has posted an image of the jewelry on his Instagram page. “USA gonna fight the powers that be,” he wrote in the caption. He added, “but in the mean time, in between time, I’ll get you back @jordanchiles Contact me.”

While Chiles is currently away from social media to follow news of the decision, her mother Gina posted on her account that the gesture “means the world” to her daughter.

Flavor Flav was heavily involved in the Paris Olympics, becoming one of the surprise viral hits of the games as the “official hype man” for the US women’s water polo team.

“This is quite an experience for me right now, you know, because the only time I’ve ever seen the Olympics was on TV,” Flav said of his new role. “You know what I mean? But I always wanted to experience what it was like to be there.”

Flav joined the water polo team in May when team captain Maggie Steffens put out a call for financial support. The hip-hop icon responded by writing, “As a daughter-father and supporter of all women’s sports – I’m going to personally sponsor you, my daughter, whatever you need. And I’m going to sponsor the entire team.”

He then signed a five-year sponsorship deal with the U.S. women’s and men’s water polo teams, promising to “increase the visibility and excitement around water polo in the United States.”

He was also honored with his own Olympics-themed Funko POP! pop at the time.

The hip-hop legend’s involvement with the U.S. Olympic team is being celebrated with a limited edition piece that will only be available until August 16.

Called ‘POP: Team USA USAWP Flavor Flav,’ orders will be available this week, with expected shipping in December. A donation from each sale will be made to the Team USA Water Polo Fund. You can purchase yours here.

He is the latest music personality to receive this honor, following the likes of Ice Spice, The Cure, Slipknot, Liam and Noel Gallagher, The White Stripes, Metallica, Post Malone and the late Eddie Van Halen.

Flav has already shown off his eclectic 2024, outing himself as Swiftie, announcing a new reality show where he’ll graduate from high school, and ordering an entire menu of red lobster to save a seafood restaurant.
