Flappy Bird creator distances himself from re-release of viral mobile game – Destructoid

As you may have heard, Flappy birdthe mobile gaming hit from ten years ago will somehow make a comeback in 2025. Flappy birdThe creator of ‘ Dong Nguyen’ recently took to Twitter to assure everyone that he has nothing to do with the ‘revival’, and to express his distaste for it with the simplicity and discretion we have come to expect from him.

Whenever someone speaks out against the use of their creation—and whether or not they are right—money is usually part of the issue. If there is one thing we know about Dong Nguyen, it is that he does not put money above his integrity.

Long story short: Flappy bird originally became the most popular game in mobile gaming overnight. Out of nowhere, no one could tear their eyes away from a game that was as simple, challenging, and pointless as it was.

Nguyen was making tens of thousands of dollars a day, but that didn’t make him feel good about the whole thing. The pressure and the idea that he was responsible for something that wasted so much of people’s time took its toll on Nguyen and led to him pulling the game from stores less than a year after its release.

The news of Flappy Birds revival is astonishing for many reasons. Now-Flappy bird is not the result of Nguyen’s cool idea for a sequel to the original game.

It came about when a shady company called the “Flappy Bird Foundation” acquired the rights after they were seemingly up for grabs. The game will, unsurprisingly, have a bunch of micro-progression features that no one really wants. Additionally, Flappy bird has never really gone away, as dozens of clones and variations have always been available to the public.

The new version is, at best, something Nguyen wants nothing to do with. And does anyone care? Flappy bird?
