First LIV Golf vs. PGA Tour without Jon Rahm

A few days ago, Rory McIlroy said he was “frustrated” that golf “is not delivering the best possible product.” He blamed the failure to reach an agreement between the PIF (Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia) and the PGA Tour.

The Northern Irishman knows that some of the best players in the world are on rival team LIV Golf and that the only way forward at the moment is for them all to play in the ‘majors’

Since LIV does not score on the world rankings and the winners do not get an exemption to play in the so-called majors, we cannot speak of ‘all’ at the moment.

McIlroy in particular argued that an agreement was needed to allow more duels like the one he fought with Bryson DeChambeau at the last U.S. Open to take place. Now, the high-profile contests dubbed “The Match” have pitted players from the LIV and the PGA against each other, according to the website golfweek.usatoday.com, in what could be the seed of a new Ryder Cup-style competition pitting the two circuits against each other.

For now, The Match will promote a televised match in December between Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler (PGA) against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka (LIV). The match will take place in Las Vegas. Rory emphasized his message to Golf Week: “It’s an event that’s designed to bring energy to the fans.

We are all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.” Let’s not forget that The Match was born in 2018 with Tiger vs. Phil, where a championship belt was even on the line.

The event continued in successive years and the team format became the most popular. In 2021 we had a Bryson vs. Brooks and in this edition they are a duo. That same year there was already a The Match, in Florida, of a mixed type, with Max Homa, Rory McIlroy, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang.
