Finnish version of The Traitors postpones finale after participant is murdered

The last episode of the Finnish version of The traitors was postponed after one of the participants was murdered.

Reality competition show The traitors sees a group of Faithfuls team up to win a large cash prize.

The only catch? They must uncover the identities of the traitors among them while preventing them from being eliminated from the game. If the traitors are not all caught in the end, the faithful will leave empty-handed.

Based on Dutch series The Traitors, there are more than 20 versions of the show around the world.

Last weekend, Janne Puhakka, who took part in season two of the Finnish rendition of the show, mentioned Petolliset – was shot dead by his former partner in the city of Espoo.

The series was filmed earlier this year and the finale was due to air next Thursday (October 24).

Puhakka – Finland’s first openly gay professional ice hockey player – was still an active traitor as the game entered its final stages.

Following the 29-year-old’s death, Finnish TV channel Nelonen announced that they had postponed the showing of the final episode.

In a statement on social media, they wrote: “The final episode of the season of ‘Petolliset’ was supposed to be shown on Thursday this week. We’ve come to the conclusion that now is not the right time to air an episode. We will return to the question about the possible presentation of the episode later.

“We share in the grief of Janne’s loved ones.”

According to Finnish police, Puhakka was murdered after returning to a house he shared with his 66-year-old ex-partner Rolf Nordmo.

The couple, who first met in 2014, split just a few weeks before the hockey player.

Nordmo is currently in police custody and has been charged with murder, the Wrap reports.

According to police, Nordmo confessed and admitted that the end of their relationship was “the motive for the crime.”

Authorities say the crime was “committed with premeditation and in a particularly brutal and brutal manner.”

Puhakka played ice hockey in Canada, Finland and France between 2015 and 2018.

During his hockey career, he kept his relationship with Nordmo private because he was “afraid of the way I would be perceived in the ultra-masculine sports world.”

After his retirement, he publicly revealed his sexuality, hoping it would help other players in the future.
