Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus coming in November, pre-orders are live on Amazon

Pre-orders are now live for Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus, a hardcover encyclopedic artbook centered on the PS5 and PC versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. A follow-up to 2021’s similarly non-san “Plus,” the upcoming book will feature commentary, art, and maps surrounding FF7 Remake’s Intermission story expansion, as well as new insights into the base game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Material Ultimania Plus is available to pre-order now for $36 (was $40) on Amazon ahead of its November 19 release.

The other Ultimania editions are also worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of the classic Final Fantasy era. The first archive examines the NES and SNES eras of the franchise (Final Fantasy 1-6), the second volume spotlights the PS1 era of games (Final Fantasy 7-9), and the third volume looks at the modern era (Final Fantasy 10-14). These deluxe hardcover volumes are over 300 pages long each and are filled with commentary and art you won’t find anywhere else.

Square Enix’s Ultimania books were originally released in Japan before being translated into English for Western audiences. Not every book in the Ultimania series has received a translation, however. There’s a Chrono Trigger Ultimania, for example, which is unfortunately only available in Japanese. Final Fantasy fans might also want to check out Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, which collects art and commentary from the series prior to Kingdom Hearts 3. It’s available in English, and is currently selling for $25 on Amazon (was $45).

If you’re primarily interested in the Ultimania books about classic Final Fantasy games, you should also check out FF Dot. This collection includes detailed sprite sheets showing the pixel composition of Final Fantasy characters, as well as the maps from the classic series, a look at the tools used to build them, and a special interview with Kazuko Shibuya, the character pixel artist for the Final Fantasy series.

Speaking of pixel art, Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition is coming out on October 8. Final Fantasy I-VI Collection Anniversary Edition is a reprint of the hard-to-find Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters collection and is available for pre-order now for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
