For much of Week 1 — an opening week that was a major disappointment in terms of passing production — it appeared as though the running backs were the only safe haven for fantasy football managers, with their rosters holding up while the stars at quarterback, wide receiver and tight end largely disappointed.

That was… until Monday Night Football came along. San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey was a surprise inactive, still nursing a calf/Achilles injury from training camp, and the fantasy implications were huge. Though CMC was listed as “questionable” leading up to the game, there was a sense of optimism from the organization that he would be good to go… until, suddenly, he wasn’t.
