FACTBOX: What is known about UAV attacks on Russian regions – Russian politics and diplomacy

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed two Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the skies over the Rostov and Volgograd regions overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Acting Governor of the Rostov Region Yury Slyusar clarified that a falling drone caused a fire at an industrial facility, but it was extinguished.

TASS has collected the most important facts about the aftermath of the incident.

Scale of attacks

– During the night, air defenses intercepted and destroyed two Ukrainian UAVs in the skies over the Rostov and Volgograd regions, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

– Volgograd Airport operations were temporarily restricted, suspending inbound and outbound flights from 5:45 a.m. Moscow time (2:45 a.m. GMT). The restrictions were lifted at 8:05 a.m. Moscow time (5:05 a.m. GMT).

– According to the online board, there are two flights Volgograd-Moscow, one Volgograd-St. Petersburg flight, as well as flights to Volgograd from Moscow, Samara and Chelyabinsk were delayed. The delays totaled approximately 3-4 hours.

– A warning was issued about a possible drone attack in Akhtubinsk in the Astrakhan region, Alexander Sivakov, acting head of the city administration, said on his Telegram channel. All services are operating in an intensified mode.

– A UAV warning was also issued in the Akhtubinsky district of the Astrakhan region, the head of the district Vladimir Mikhed reported on his Telegram channel. He urged residents to remain calm and rely on information from official sources.

– Astrakhan Airport is functioning normally, spokeswoman Anastasia Golodova told TASS.

– There is a risk of a drone attack in Znamensk in the Astrakhan region, municipality head Oleg Glotov said on his Telegram channel.

Aftermath

– Yury Slyusar, the acting governor of the Rostov region, reported that a falling drone caused a fire at an industrial facility in the Konstantinovsky district.

– It was extinguished when the area reached 5 square meters (54 square feet); no one was injured.
