Fabrizio Romano reveals his favourite transfer of the summer transfer window

The transfer window for the summer of 2024 has closed for all five major European leagues and after months of working on transfer stories, Fabrizio Romano has revealed his favourite signing of the past three months.

The summer transfer window is crucial for football clubs as they look to strengthen their squads for the new season and resolve the issues that arose during the previous campaign.

This summer saw some major deals, with Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid being the biggest news, while Atletico Madrid’s signing of Julian Alvarez from Man City was the most expensive, totalling £82m.

However, neither of these two deals were Fabrizio Romano’s favourite for the 2024 summer transfer window.

The transfer expert has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain’s signing of João Neves from Benfica was his preferred move for the 2024/25 season. He believes the midfielder was a bargain despite the €70 million attached to the deal, as the midfielder’s potential is very high.

Speaking about the latest episode of The CaughtOffside Debrief PodcastFabrizio Romano indicated that Neves’ move to PSG was his favourite, but also threw another transfer into the mix.

“My favourite deal was Joao Neves to Paris Saint-Germain. I think Paris Saint-Germain signed a fantastic, fantastic player for the present and also for the future. I still believe that Joao Neves’ future is going to be super bright. The potential of this boy is really, really special,” said the transfer expert.

“Signing a quality player like him with great potential for €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons, I think is an incredible price for modern football and the modern transfer markets. It’s a bit of a bargain. So I think PSG have signed a gem in Neves, one of my favourite transfers.”

Romano then gave an honourable mention to Scott McTominay’s move from Man United to Napoli.

“I also really appreciated Scott McTominay for Napoli. I think he is perfect for Serie A. For Antonio Conte he is perfect. He was a very good signing for Napoli. So I mentioned these two, but Neves is my favorite.”
