Fabrizio Romano confirms ‘serious possibility’ of Arsenal star transfer sealing deal after development yesterday

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed there is a “serious possibility” Jakub Kiwior will leave Arsenal before the end of the summer after being left out of Mikel Arteta’s matchday squad yesterday.

The Poland international wasn’t even on the bench for the Gunners, who beat Wolves 2-0 in their first Premier League game of the season, in a move that Arteta may be trying to signal that the player no longer fits into his first team.

Romano gave an exclusive insight into Kiwior’s situation to CaughtOffside in his latest Daily Briefing column, stating that there is a strong possibility that the 24-year-old will leave Emirates Stadium, although there is no concrete information from any specific club at this stage.

Kiwior left Spezia for Arsenal in January 2023 and Romano admits it is possible he could return to Italy, with the player himself apparently welcoming the chance to return to Serie A.

Is Jakub Kiwior going to leave Arsenal?

Kiwi transfer: What’s next for the Arsenal defender?

Although Kiwior performed well when Arsenal called him up, he was rarely an automatic starter. And now that Riccardo Calafiori has been signed, it is even harder to expect him to get many opportunities. Like Kiwior, he can play as a centre-back or left-back.

It is therefore not surprising that Romano gives us the following update:

“There is a serious possibility that Kiwior will leave, but my sources assure me that there are no concrete talks with a specific club at the moment,” Romano said.

“It’s not like there’s a specific club in negotiations for Kiwior at the moment. I understand that Kiwior would like to return to Italy.”

Arsenal could do with Kiwior’s depth in the squad, but at this point Arteta may feel he has sufficient cover following the arrival of Calafiori, while Oleksandr Zinchenko has also enjoyed a very good pre-season despite a dip in form at left-back last season.
