It was also an active morning with the line of thunderstorms moving through mid-Michigan. These storms were not severe, but still brought a lot of lightning and heavy rain! While the rest of today is on the dry side, we are expecting another chance of a storm tonight.

Afternoon & Tonight

Since today’s forecast is multi-faceted, we will split this section into two parts: heat And storms.

Heat – First warning weather day: The day started out mild, not even reaching 60 degrees. Unfortunately for anyone without air conditioning, we didn’t get much relief at night. The good news is that Wednesday and Thursday nights will be 10 degrees cooler, which should provide some relief by then!

Temperatures are already in the low to mid 80s for this lunchtime update. The heat index has also reached 90 degrees. We’re looking at heat index values above 90 degrees through 10 p.m. From about 2 p.m. through 7 p.m., the heat index will range from 95 to 100 degrees. Today’s high is expected to reach 92 degrees, though a few spots could reach 93 or 94 degrees.

On Tuesday the temperature will be around 36 degrees Celsius.

With the school holidays starting and sports training starting, and for anyone working outside, we recommend taking regular breaks and staying hydrated! It doesn’t take long for your body to overheat in these conditions, especially if you’re not drinking the right amount of fluids. Also remember that in these conditions, the interior of your car can reach almost 110 degrees in just 10 minutes, and almost 120 degrees in 20 minutes. look before you lock.

Dew points have already risen to the low to mid 70s and will remain there for the rest of the day. Tonight, those dew points will drop back down to around 70 degrees. The higher humidity is the reason the heat index values are rising. The wind today will be southwest at 5 to 10 mph, so it will be a mild wind as well.

Tonight the temperature will drop to 21 degrees Celsius, while the wind will blow from the northwest at a speed of 8 to 16 km/h.

Storms: Now that the morning storms and rain have cleared, a dry spell of weather is beginning. This is mainly due to a “cap” or inversion, a raised layer of warm, stable air that prevents air from rising. This prevents further showers or storms from developing. We still don’t want to completely rule out the possibility of a shower or thunderstorm, perhaps along a lake breeze boundary, but the current trend is for drier weather to prevail for most of the rest of the day. The sky should actually remain partly to mostly sunny.

The biggest update in the forecast is now in the evening and tonight. A small disturbance could bring a few thunderstorms to Huron County first around 9:00 or 22:00 before another line of storms moves through after midnight. Those first showers and storms in Huron County could produce heavy winds or hail.

The storm line tonight could be quite similar to what we saw this morning. Since there is also a cap forming tonight, the storms could stay high, which would reduce our chance of extreme weather, but we are not there yet. This line starts around 2am, but by 6am it will only bring steady rain after the first storm line.

There is a slight risk of strong straight-line winds and large hail outside of tonight’s storm line. The chance of tornadoes is also quite low, although it is still at least a possibilityCompared to wind and hail, the chance is still relatively much smaller.

There is a small chance of bad weather on Tuesday evening.
