Exclusive: Chelsea transfer target has ‘completely severed’ relationship with current club, says expert

According to Fabrizio Romano, the relationship between Victor Osimhen and Napoli has now completely broken down, speaking to him about the bizarre story surrounding Chelsea and Al Ahli’s pursuit of the Nigerian striker this summer.

The transfer window is now over for most European leagues. Chelsea were unable to reach an agreement on the signing of Osimhen and Napoli also appeared to have changed some details of their deal with Al Ahli, causing that transfer to fall through as well.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside In his latest column in the Daily Briefing, Romano was unable to make any predictions about Osimhen’s future, but he did make it clear that the 25-year-old will not play for Napoli’s first team next season.

Chelsea tried their best but this time they couldn’t make a deal. However, it is questionable whether Osimhen will regret the whole affair as he could now be stuck at Napoli until January without being able to play.

Victor Osimhen’s transfer saga was one of the most insane of the summer

Osimhen transfer: Romano gives details on crazy saga

“A delegation from Chelsea was in Italy to reach an agreement with Osimhen. They worked for a long time to reach an agreement with the player. There were various add-ons and bonuses to make their proposal higher, while staying in line with Financial Fair Play, but their proposal still did not come close to Osimhen’s €11-12 million net salary at Napoli,” Romano said.

“I think Chelsea eventually made five or six offers, and one last one at 10pm, but again it wasn’t even close, so the deal fell through. This was the case with Osimhen, where Chelsea tried until the end, and at one point were convinced that the deal would go through because Napoli had no other option to sell, but in the end Osimhen said no to their contract offer.

“The last crucial point is that Osimhen is now out of the Napoli project for this season. Their situation is completely tense, as Osimhen now seems to stay at Napoli, unless something crazy happens with another Saudi club in the next few days, but he would be completely out of Antonio Conte’s first team. Osimhen told Napoli that he didn’t want to play for them anymore, and now he stays at the club in this crazy and tense situation.

“At the moment, the expectation is that Osimhen will remain out of Napoli until the January transfer window. Then I can’t predict the future… whether they find a way to resolve this situation, we’ll see. But at the moment, the relationship is completely broken and in January his future will be reassessed.”
