Exclusive | Adam Vigil wants to win the title

Fury FC returns on Sunday for Fury FC 94. This weekend, the middleweight title is on the line. Adam Vigil will take on Ty Gwerder in the main event for the belt. Ty Gwerder gets his chance after two consecutive losses for other promotions. Jordan Wright was originally scheduled to fight Adam Vigil, but had to withdraw due to injury. Adam Vigil is coming off a 5-fight winning streak, 3 of which came with Fury FC. Combat Sports UK spoke to fighters ahead of their fights to try and get their take on the fight. Combat Sports UK spoke to Adam Vigil ahead of his title fight against Ty Gwerder.

Adam Vigil on his last fight

Adam Vigil managed to claim victory in his last fight against Iván Valenzuela. This victory came by unanimous decision and was the win that secured a title fight. I was able to speak with Adam Vigil to hear how he felt about this fight and what he has improved since then. Speaking about this fight Adam responded by saying;

“I went into that match with a broken finger and a couple of other injuries. So we definitely had to make some adjustments. I was disappointed with that performance and I plan on showing a completely different fighter in this match.”

Adam came into this fight with injuries, so he wasn’t 100% coming into this fight. This could have affected his performance and could have meant that he lost because he didn’t have all the tools at his disposal. Although he wasn’t happy with his performance in the fight, he attributes that to the injuries he went into the fight with. Adam comes into this fight without injuries and is ready to show his true potential as he tries to get the title.

Success in battle

Although he wasn’t happy with the performance in the last fight, the most important thing was that he was able to get the win. I was curious to know what Adam Vigil thought he had the most success with. Although he wasn’t happy, Adam Vigil spoke about what he thought he had the most success with when he explained;

“What I did well was make adjustments, adapt and keep the pressure on when I was at the top.”

Adam Vigil feels that the things he did best were the adjustments he made going into the fight. Adam came into this fight with injuries so he had to shake things up because he couldn’t fight exactly the way he wanted to. However, he is pleased with how successful this shakeup was and how he was always able to keep the pressure on his opponent when he could get the upper hand.

Change of opponent

Adam will be taking on Ty Gwerder for the title on Sunday. This wasn’t always the case though, as Jordan Wright was his original opponent for the title. I was able to ask Adam if he was disappointed that Jordan Wright had to pull out of the fight. Speaking of what he thought he had said;

“Jordan Wright is also a good fighter and unfortunately he got injured. I hope he recovers quickly. I know that the fighter that steps in the cage with me on the 21st is the fighter that I should be fighting anyway, so I can’t control who is with me, only the work that I put into my camp.”

Adam Vigil is disappointed that Jordan Wright won’t be able to fight him this weekend and wishes him the best and a speedy recovery. However, Adam can’t decide who he fights on Sunday, he can only make sure he’s ready for a fight. Adam is more concerned about his development and game plan than who he fights. As long as there’s an opponent to fight, he doesn’t care who it is. All Adam Vigil cares about is performing in the fight.

Training camp

Before a fight, a fighter goes to a training camp to create the best game plan possible. Fighters go back and review tape to find the best path to victory. Fighters can also work on areas where their opponent is weak and fill in any holes in their own game. I was able to ask Adam how his training camp went for this upcoming fight. He explained how camp went and responded:

“This training camp has been amazing. I’m looking forward to showing the best version of myself as a fighter and a man in every way possible. I think Ty is a good fighter. I have nothing bad to say about him. I just think I’m better in every way possible and I plan on showing that in every way possible.”

Adam has nothing bad to say about his opponent, but he is confident that this training camp will allow him to show the best version of himself. Adam believes this is the best he has ever seen and can’t wait to show the world the improvements he has made to his game.

Did the change of opponent affect the training camp?

I was curious if the change of opponent had changed the training camps he was in at the time. This could be because Ty Gwerder was stronger where Jordan was weak, or the other way around. Adam said of the impact:

“The change of opponent has not affected me at all, as this is my third opponent for this fight. All I can do is work hard and stay focused.”

Adam revealed that this change was not the only one that took place in this title fight. This is the 3rd opponent he has faced, so he has focused more on filling the gaps that he needs to fill in order to perform at his best. Adam does not care who he faces, all he cares about is performing at his best. Adam is focused and confident that he can show the world the best version of himself.

How does Adam Vigil see this fight going?

Going into a fight, every fighter has an idea of how this fight is going to go. However, this is not always the case with the Zack Borrego vs. Jordan Wright fight. While it may not go as they thought, they still had an idea of how the fight would go. He talked about how he sees this fight going and if he had a prediction;

“I always go for the knockout, but I’m ready for 25 minutes of war if necessary.”

Adam Vigil goes into this fight not planning on needing the judges’ scorecards. He plans on knocking out Ty Gwerder, but he makes sure he’s prepared if this fight has to go all the way. If Adam only plans on a knockout, he might get tired later and Ty will have a chance to take the title himself. Adam, however, is ready to go into battle and doesn’t see the need for the scorecards.

Who is Adam Vigil’s next actor?

I was wondering if Adam Vigil had a fight in mind if he can get out on the court on Sunday and get the win. This could be a fight against Jordan Wright if he recovers from his injury. It could be a rematch against Logan Woods since he was the one who handed Adam Vigil his only defeat as a pro. Adam explained his future plans saying:

“The first task is to win this fight and go from there. I don’t care who I fight after I win this belt”

Adam doesn’t look past Ty and doesn’t plan future fights before taking care of business. This is a smart move because being too focused on other fights can lead to not giving this fight his full attention. This could mean he missed something to give him that win on the day and he doesn’t walk away with the title.

Fury FC as a whole

I was able to ask Adam what he thought of Fury FC. Adam has competed in some of the biggest promotions in the world including LFA and Bellator. I was curious to see how Fury FC compares to these other promotions. Adam explained what he thought, considering this is his 4th fight;

“I love Fury and everything it’s done for me and my career. From the commentators and the staff and working with Eric Garcia has been a blessing.”

Adam is enjoying his time with Fury FC which is always what you want because you don’t want to fight for a company that doesn’t treat you right. You hear about some organizations like PFL that aren’t the best for their fighters like they handled the Gegard Mousasi situation but it’s always good to hear about organizations that can take care of their fighters.

UFC recording

I could see if Adam Vigil felt he deserved a UFC shot or even a DWCS shot after a win. Adam would go to 10-1 and have a 6-fight winning streak. As to whether he felt he deserved a shot, he explained;

“I’ve already been interviewed for the UFC ultimate fighter show and was almost called as a contender last year. Now I have more wins and finishes, so I know I’m almost there. All I can do is focus on the journey. God has a place for me and I know I can win.”

Adam has been in contact with Dana White before and was so close to being in contention last year. He has only gotten better now, so if he was close last time, he is certainly not over the edge. We will have to wait and see if he can take the title first, but he is definitely getting closer with every win he gets.
