Ex-cop who assaulted a woman in Essex has been banned from policing

A former police officer who admitted assault would have been fired if he had not already resigned, a misconduct panel has concluded.

Andrew Watt, 51, pushed a woman after her arrest in Clacton-on-Sea in December 2023, leaving her with head injuries and requiring hospital treatment.

He was placed on the police’s excluded list on Monday at an accelerated hearing led by Chief Constable of Essex Police Ben-Julian Harrington.

It was found that Watt had breached the Standards of Professional Conduct in relation to conduct and serious misconduct had been proven.
