Everton in talks with Chelsea over loan deal for David Datro Fofana

Everton are reportedly looking for a replacement for Neal Maupay and have held talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for David Datro Fofana.

The Toffees have endured a difficult start to the season, being convincingly beaten in their opening two games against Brighton and Tottenham.

Sean Dyche’s side have had a relatively quiet summer, despite losing midfielder Amadou Onana, but it is thought they can still complete one or two deals before Friday’s deadline.

Goals could be a problem for Everton, with only one goal scored in their first two games.

Doubts remain over Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future, but according to TEAMtalk, Everton want to replace Maupay with Chelsea’s Datro Fofana.

The report reveals that Everton have already held talks with the striker over a loan deal that does not include an option to buy.

Datro Fofana is just one of the players the Blues are looking to sell before the transfer window closes.

The 21-year-old, who left for Chelsea in January 2023, made just four appearances for the club and spent last season on loan at both Union Berlin and Burnley.

The striker has scored four goals in 15 games for the Clarets and is also said to be attracting interest from Leicester City.

The Ivorian isn’t the only Chelsea striker Everton fancy, with the Toffees reportedly interested in Armando Broja, although they reportedly need to raise money to fund a deal.

Everton’s financial situation makes it difficult to navigate the transfer market and the club is desperate to avoid a points deduction this season.

It is vital that the Toffees remain in the Premier League as this is their final season at Goodison Park before moving to their new stadium.
