Evacuations were ordered after wildfire ignited in Spring Valley – NBC 7 San Diego

Evacuations were ordered by first responders Thursday afternoon after a brush fire began burning in East County near where state Routes 125 and 54 intersect.

At 12:30 p.m., officials said the flames in Spring Valley had only charred an acre near Quarry and Sweetwater Roads, but the fire spread significantly over the next hour.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in some areas, including Leigh Avenue and Spring Canyon Drive, but below is a map of nearby residential areas that need to be evacuated.

Cal Fire has two firefighting helicopters on scene, assisting San Miguel Fire & Rescue with their ground crews on the incident, according to Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, evacuees have been told they can meet at the gym at the Mt. Miguel High School.
