Eric Bischoff Explains Why AEW Is ‘Dying’ Instead of Growing

Eric Bischoff is unhappy that the 250th episode of “AEW Dynamite,” a landmark event, was not presented at a larger venue. Conrad Thompson argued that AEW may have held the show at the Simmons Bank Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas, because of its proximity to Texas, where they have a residency for the “AEW Collision” show, and that the decision made financial sense.

Bischoff understands that reasoning when he believes AEW is operating financially wisely. He argues that the company is run as a hobby.

“I get it, I can’t be critical of that if it’s actually run as a business, because there’s a lot of other things that lead me to believe it’s not. It’s run as a fantasy, a hobby,” Bischoff said.

However, he believes that budget cuts could lead to AEW entering a “death spiral” and he doesn’t believe it will help them break the 1 million viewers mark.

“But if that’s the case, then that’s the case, and the only risk with that is that as you become more efficient and manage your costs, as you have to do, the perception of your product suffers and that’s the downward spiral. That’s the death spiral, and I’ve been in it; I know exactly what it feels like,” he said.

He reiterated that he is not happy with AEW’s plight, stating that he has been in the same position as AEW and has seen similar patterns in WCW. Bischoff said that his criticism of AEW comes from passion rather than joy.
