Swansea have signed Eom Ji-Sung from South Korean top club Gwangju FC on a four-year deal. The amount is unknown.

The 22-year-old has made one appearance for South Korea and Swansea are likely to deploy him as a left winger or central attacking midfielder.

“We know he (Eom) is a player who will bring us speed and creativity,” Williams said.

“He has the ability to play in different positions, we have the chance to assess that in training and in friendly matches.

“From that we can get an idea of how he likes to play when he is on the wings or when he plays more centrally.

“We wanted to increase the number of attacking actions we could perform on the pitch at the same time and be more dynamic in the way we attacked the centre of the pitch and the outside of the pitch.

“Hopefully Ji-sung can give us more tools and dynamic actions to face a bigger threat.”

Swansea continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 win over League Two side Swindon Town last weekend and will soon embark on a mini-tour of Austria, where they face FC Köln on Wednesday 24 July.

Eom has scored 20 goals in 108 K League games for Gwangju, becoming the first Korean to play for the Swans since midfielder Ki Sung-yueng, who helped the club win the League Cup in 2013, scoring 12 goals in 162 games between 2012 and 2018.

“We have signed someone who takes his football very seriously and wants to play at the highest possible level,” Williams added.

“He is ambitious and will do whatever it takes to achieve what he wants to achieve.

“When I spoke to him I felt that coming across and I’m sure we have the player with the right mentality to come here and be part of what we want to do and understand what this club means to so many people.”
