Enzo Maresca explains what excites him most about Pedro Neto

Enzo Maresca admitted he is “very excited” about the arrival of Pedro Neto after Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly against Internazionale on Sunday.

The Blues ended their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against the Italian champions at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Lesley Ugochukwu’s last-minute equaliser.

It was Maresca’s first game as manager at his new home stadium and his last chance to see his team in action before the new season kicks off on August 18 against Manchester City.

Maresca enthusiastic about Neto

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market and Chelsea fans got the chance to see their latest signing when Pedro Neto was paraded onto the pitch at half-time.

Chelsea reached a £51.4million deal with Wolves for the Portugal international on Friday in what seemed to come out of nowhere, and he has signed a long-term contract with the club.

Neto is a proven player in the Premier League and will add depth and quality to the flanks, with the ability to play on either wing seen as a major asset by Chelsea.

After the match, Maresca admitted that he was very happy with the arrival of the 24-year-old and that he had a lot to offer.

“I’m very excited, he can offer a lot. He can play on the right, he can play on the left, he’s very good in one-on-one games,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“It’s another option we have because there will be a lot of games in the season so we need a big squad.”

Neto, who has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, made just 20 Premier League appearances last season, providing nine assists and scoring two goals. Chelsea will be hoping he stays fit.

The Portuguese will train with his new teammates next week and could make his debut for the club against City.
