Emma Raducanu shares exact injury diagnosis after late withdrawal from Beijing

Emma Raducanu has made it clear what exactly happened in Seoul. The British tennis player sprained her ankle ligaments and will therefore be unable to play sports for some time.

On Monday, the draw for the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing was announced and the 21-year-old’s name was on it. But shortly after, it was announced that the 2021 US Open champion had decided to withdraw from the China Open.

Now 21-year-old X has confirmed the news, but she also explains the exact reason for her latest move.

“Hi, last week in Seoul I sprained some ligaments in my foot which unfortunately will need some time to heal (sad emoji). This means I won’t be able to play in Beijing, but I hope to be able to compete again as soon as possible,” Raducanu wrote on X.

Raducanu was injured in the Seoul quarter-finals

After winning the first set of their quarter-final in Seoul 6-1, Daria Kasatkina decided to call it a day at the Korea Open. It should be noted that the former world number 10 was undergoing treatment during the opener and was clearly suffering from a foot problem.

For Raducanu, the last thing she wanted, given what she said just a week ago, was to sustain an injury at the start of the Asian swing.

“I think for the rest of the year, as long as I’m healthy, I’m going to try to finish the season and play as many games as possible. That’s something that I really haven’t had much of since the grass period because of the DC period. I haven’t played many points, even in training. So today, as tough as it was, I think I got three hours of match experience, which can only help me for the coming weeks. For me now, I just want to play games and in the meantime work a little bit on my game where I can,” she said in Seoul.

Raducanu will now likely try to recover for the Wuhan Open, which starts in exactly two weeks.
