Emma Raducanu secures direct entry to US Open, confirming recent decisions – Tennis Tonic

The confirmation that Emma Raducanu has qualified directly for next month’s US Open confirms two of her most controversial decisions in recent weeks, namely skipping qualifying for the French Open and forgoing participation in the Olympic Games.

Both decisions were met with skepticism from critics, but her return to the top 100 of the WTA rankings after her strong performances on grass courts is proof that she is making the right decisions for her career and not following the narrative that others want to write for her.

Raducanu needed a wildcard to get into Wimbledon this month, but her impressive performances on grass courts confirmed she is on her way back to the top of the game. A run to the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open was backed up by impressive wins over Sloane Stephens and Jessica Pegula en route to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Eastbourne.

Former British No. 1 Johanna Konta has backed Raducanu for making bold decisions in her career, citing her success on grass courts as confirmation that she is making the right decisions. Konta said: “I think this is where Emma is really good and very mature. She has a thought, she has a direction in mind, and she goes for it and she makes the decision, and I think that’s a very mature approach for a young player.”

Konta continued: “I really admire her for her conviction in the way she makes decisions for her career. She’s going to win these games more and more and I think that’s where your deep-seated confidence in you as a competitor and you as a player and what you can do there, how you can solve problems, really comes from.”

Raducanu needs only to win a few matches in the upcoming American hardcourt competition to return to the top 50 of the WTA rankings. Her return to the top of women’s tennis will undoubtedly be welcomed by everyone in the sport.
