Emma Raducanu retires injured in Korea Open quarterfinals with Daria Kasatkina | Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu suffered another injury setback as she withdrew from her Korea Open quarter-final clash with top seed Daria Kasatkina. The 21-year-old Briton had just lost the first set 6-1 when she withdrew with a foot problem.

Raducanu had previously defeated two top-50 players in Seoul en route to the last eight; American Peyton Stearns and China’s Yue Yuan. The 2021 US Open champion was seeking to reach her second ever WTA Tour semi-final after reaching the last four in Nottingham in June, but her match against world number 13 Kasatkina on Friday was initially called off due to rain.

When the match finally got underway on Saturday, Raducanu – who had said earlier in the week that she wanted to play as many matches as possible before the end of the season – was broken by her Russian opponent in the second game.

She broke back immediately, but could not build on that. After Kasatkina had decided the set, Raducanu walked over and shook her hand. She had decided that she could not continue because of a problem with her left foot.
