Emma Raducanu makes Tim Henman accusation ahead of Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu has accused Tim Henman of having ‘higher expectations’ as she prepares to play at Wimbledon next week.

The Briton is hoping to win her second Grand Slam of her career, having already won the US Open in 2021.

However, Raducanu does not set the bar too high: the 23-year-old has only just returned to full fitness.

She has played in Nottingham and Eastbourne in recent weeks, giving fans a glimpse of her quality.

But the former major winner has now accused the former world number four of having ‘higher expectations’ than herself.

Raducanu kept her answer short: “If I get through the first round, I would be over the moon.

“Tim has higher expectations, I think.”

Raducanu, who is currently ranked 168th in the world, has started playing tennis again with a smile on her face.

And the Brit says she is happy with her recent performances, adding: “I would say I haven’t had any injuries recently.

“I have a lot of confidence in my body.

“I was able to play three games at a high level last week and I came out physically unscathed. I think I’m in a very good place.

“Last year, at the end of the year, I put in a lot of work to get healthy again.

“I’ve continued that work this whole year. I feel good in my body. There’s no doubt about it.”

When asked if Wimbledon 2024 was her best preparation for a Grand Slam, Raducanu replied: “Yes, I would say this preparation has worked out very well.

“I have a good balance between the games, but also stay fresh and don’t play too much.

“I think the Eastbourne week really helped to get some top-level games in, and also get a really good win in the second round.

“Yes, my best win so far. I think I should take a lot of confidence from that.

“I would say it also helps not to arrive at the location too early. Because if you arrive too early, sometimes you still have time to think.

“I’ve done it before where I haven’t played before the Grand Slam.

“I was supposed to make it to the second round and play my match on Thursday, but I was there since Monday.

“I feel like I’m in week two, but I’m in round two.”
