Emma Raducanu makes new stunning move after skipping Toronto, Cincinnati qualifiers

Emma Raducanu has made a decision that may surprise some. The British tennis star is back in London after missing the qualifying matches against Toronto and Cincinnati. Moreover, it is still unclear whether the former world number 10 will play in Cleveland or Monterrey next week.

In case you missed it, Raducanu started her North American hardcourt swing by reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Washington. But then her schedule plans likely fell apart after the WTA 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati failed to award her a wildcard into the main draw.

For months, it has been clear that Raducanu is avoiding qualifying, and as a result, she can enter the US Open with only one tournament played leading up to it, even though she is completely healthy.

Raducanu’s coach’s sister reveals some interesting details

In the broadcast, former British tennis players Laura Robson and Naomi Cavaday discussed the Raducanu affair.

“I actually wanted to ask you, since your brother is her coach, why was the decision made not to compete in qualifying?” Robson asked Naomi, whose brother Nick Raducanu coaches.

“I think she saw it as extra matches, she had some wins in Washington, pretty happy with the level. Body is feeling it a bit, trying to keep that under control,” Naomi answered.

“It’s a tricky one because you want to keep the momentum going,” Robson said.

Naomi added: “I mean, I think if she had a wildcard for the main draw, she would have considered doing it. I’m sure she considered doing it in qualifying as well.” After this comment, Naomi underlined that she did not know what the exact conversations were between Raducanu and her brother.

Robson jokingly replied: “I’m afraid I’m not privy to the scheduling decisions. I thought you’d give us some gossip!”

It will now be interesting to see whether Raducanu will play in one of the two tournaments scheduled for the next two weeks, or whether she will simply stay on the practice court and play her next match at the US Open.
