Emma Raducanu confirms one post-US Open tournament for indoor swing

Emma Raducanu has already confirmed one tournament for the indoor swing: the former British world number 10 has registered to participate in the Hong Kong Open in late October and early November.

This year, Hong Kong will host two tournaments – an ATP 250 tournament, but also a WTA 250 event. And so far, the organizers have secured some big names, with world number 6 Andrey Rublev headlining the male field.

With 2021 US Open champion Raducanu also committed to Hong Kong, there is no doubt that the women’s tournament will also feature some interesting names to draw attention to the tournament.

Last year, Leylah Fernandez, who was defeated in the US Open final by Raducanu three years ago, won the title in Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong has the honour of being one of three cities in Asia, alongside Beijing and Tokyo, to host both an ATP and WTA Tour event. The introduction of a WTA 125 event in Hong Kong this year provides an exciting new competitive opportunity for our elite local players, along with other ‘rising stars’ in the region and internationally,” Hong Kong tournament director Michael Cheng said in a statement after the news of Raducanu broke.

Raducanu loves Asia and especially China

Because Raducanu’s mother is Chinese, the 21-year-old Brit has always had a soft spot for China and Asian culture.

In late 2022, Raducanu competed in Seoul, reaching the semi-finals before retiring at the expense of Yelena Ostapenko. Last year, while recovering from multiple surgeries, Raducanu went on a trip to China so she could spend some time there, but also learn more about their culture.

Raducanu will be back in China in two months, as the Hong Kong Open women’s tournament is scheduled for October 26 to November 3.
