Emberson Shares Health Update, What’s Different With Warsofsky

The San Jose Sharks didn’t see much of Ty Emberson last year, but they clearly liked what they saw.

On Thursday, the Sharks signed the 24-year-old RFA defender, who played just 30 games in his debut season, to a one-year contract worth $950,000.

Emberson missed the final two months of the season, 24 games, with a torn right foot.

Regardless, San Jose believes it found a diamond in the rough with last fall’s waiver claim.

Emberson spoke Friday and gave a positive update on his health, as well as what will change under new San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky.

Emberson on his health after missing the last two months of the season:

It was just a cut on my lower body on my foot. You guys have seen me on the track for a couple of months. I had surgery that night to repair the injury.

No restrictions (during training). I’ve been handling this just fine. I’m just going to ramp it up a bit when we get back for training camp.

Emberson on what he wants to improve for his second season:

Just consistency. Obviously I made my debut and last year was a learning adjustment for me. This year, just coming in, just getting started and picking up where I left off last year.

Emberson on what makes new San Jose Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky so special:

He brings great communication skills, he can work well with young players and he understands a little bit how the game has changed (when) he came through the ranks. He has won at every level. I think he will win again at this level.

His communication skills, making sure it’s a two-way street of understanding that we’re working on things and he’s working on building us up as players and people, so I think just the fact that he can understand the younger generation will help a lot.

Emberson on the systemic changes Warsofsky could implement:

I think commitment to the system is going to be important for us this year, making sure everyone is accountable in our D-zone and just sticking to the game plan and making sure we can be consistent.
