Eight people have been killed in a knife attack in eastern China second mass murder in a week.

The stabbing, which injured another 17 people, occurred as the public was still mourning a deadly car attack in the southern city of Zhuhai days earlier.

At least 35 people were killed and 43 others injured when an SUV plowed into a crowd at a sports stadium on Monday, raising major concerns about social stability and prompting Beijing to take more precautions.

Saturday’s attack took place around 6:30 p.m. at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, a city in Jiangsu province, about 200 kilometers west of Shanghai.

The suspect, a 21-year-old surnamed Xu who was studying at university, was arrested at the scene, local police said.
