The Sokoto Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of 13 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud.

According to a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Saturday, the suspects were apprehended during an early-morning operation in the Gidan Yaro and Dandima areas of Sokoto State.

The arrests followed actionable intelligence indicating the involvement of the individuals in internet-related crimes. Oyewale further revealed that all 13 suspects claimed to be students of Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.

“Eleven investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged in court. This operation is part of the EFCC’s continued efforts to curb internet fraud across the country,” Oyewale stated.

The raid comes amid an ongoing crackdown on cybercrime, with the EFCC intensifying its focus on institutions of higher learning, where some students have been implicated in online fraud. Gistmania had earlier reported that the agency raided private hostels within the university’s vicinity as part of its investigation.

The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to tackling internet fraud and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.
