Ederson delivers a daring backheel under pressure during Man City’s clash with Newcastle – and Pep Guardiola had the perfect response

Ederson produced a remarkable display of craftsmanship as Manchester City traveled to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Brazilian has long been recognized for his exceptional ability with the ball at his feet and has been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side since his arrival in 2017.

In further proof of his ability on the ball, Ederson has provided four assists since arriving in England, putting him second in the Premier League’s all-time rankings.

In the first half of City’s clash with Newcastle, Ederson received the ball outside his own penalty area as Anthony Gordon brought it down with the score at 0-0.

The goalkeeper was clearly not fascinated by the oncoming attacker and coolly brought the ball back to safety.

Although he remained calm throughout the series, the same could not be said for Guardiola as he watched from the touchline.

As the television cameras panned to the manager, he seemed completely annoyed by Ederson’s nonchalance on the ball.

Although his manager was clearly less than thrilled with Ederson’s antics, the incident proved hugely popular among supporters on social media.

One called Ederson ‘The best ball-playing goalkeeper I have ever seen’

Another added: ‘This man shouldn’t have been a goalkeeper.’

A third wrote: ‘It feels weird saying “stop that, Ederson!” without it sounding like fairly obvious advice for a goalkeeper. What a bottom it was, by the way.’

Guardiola’s mood would be lifted shortly afterwards when Josko Gvardiol put the Premier League champions ahead at St James’ Park.

However, City came back early in the second half when Gordon scored from the spot after Ederson brought down the England international.
